Dreams http://www.thewcom.com/forum/discussion/2028/dreams Fri, 11 May 2012 11:31:32 -0400 blackmage 2028@/forum/discussions
Night 1:
Commander Riker (of Star Trek fame) and I are on the Enterprise, messing with the gravity. I'm floating around and stuff, but overall I don't remember much about this one.

Night 2: Had two really intense dreams. The first one was sometime before 7am, and was really disturbing. My younger sister had "cooked" my girlfriend. She had boiled her, and somehow this made her into a cake. I had brought my girlfriend cake to my work, (restaurant, if you didn't already know that) and set her up on a table. I started to cut off pieces of her. The first pieces I cut up were small samples - I distinctly remember cutting small cubes and spheres and setting them up on a plate. Then I started carving into her arm like a turkey. At this point, she starts twitching and her eyes are fluttering open. She's nowhere near fully conscious, and in my mind, I know she's not alive, and I reason out that these are leftover electrical impulses. She's laying facedown on the table, and I cut into the back of her neck. I go in at about a 45 degree angle, and the skin parts easily. I've seen video of slaughterhouses, and I'm sure that's where the imagery came from, because to me it looked like cutting into a bloodless pig (NOT comparing my GF to a pig, it's just the only point of reference I have for something like this). At this point she really starts twitching and jerking around hard. Her eyes keep opening about halfway, and I start to back away in horror. There was someone else there, and I remember saying , "What are we doing? I love this girl, stop!" At which point I woke up, and promptly called her, just so disturbed by it.

I couldn't sleep after that, so I decided to watch an episode of Star Trek. I fell back asleep around eleven and had a dream that once again I was at work. If you've never worked in a restaurant, you may not know that in most places, every shift starts off with a "talk - in" where the managers sit you down and tell you about the specials, points of interests, etc etch. Well, I was sitting down for my talk in, and Captain Picard is my manager. Sweet. Some girl comes up to the table and says "I'm here for the D&D game". We point over to the table a couple feet away, and she starts going on about it. Everyone, including myself, starts giggling at her behind her back.

Day 3: I was at Summer Sanitarium (that's Metallica's big concert festival thing). I had gotten a hotel room with my girlfriend (who, even in the dream I knew, HATES Metallica) and another friend. for some reason it was right above the stage. Probably 20 stories up, and directly below us, so we couldn't see what was happening. There were building with balcony's packed full of people all around the concert grounds. I remember directly to the left there was a group of Black Panther's for some reason. The concert was just getting started and I could hear the crowd below us start to chant, "5...4...3...2...1..." and Kid Rock's "Bawitaba" started playing. We were getting ready to head down to the concert, but we really wanted to get high first. So my friend produces the biggest bag of pot I've ever seen and hands it to me. Oh noes...we don't have a bowl. Except wait! I ask my gf to check the drawer next to her. "Remember the last time we stayed in this hotel, they gave us the same room? We didn't have a bowl, so we bought one, but we left it in that drawer for the next person that was going to stay here."  Sure enough, there's a pipe in the drawer. At this time, Bawitaba has stopped playing and a marching band is making it's way around the crowd, marching it's way around a track (like around a football field). I get really paranoid that there are going to be snipers watching the windows for illegal activities, so, sitting at a table next to the window, I circle my arms around some books that are laying there, and start to break up my weed. The nug I pulled out was the size of my hand, but the thickness of a small tree branch, and I can still feel how it was poking into my hand. Then I woke up.

I put the smallest possible Google ads I could at the bottom of the page. I'm not encouraging you to click them. Google pays pennies for page visits based on how many people just see the links, never mind clicking them.

This is just adding to the WCOM fund account. I doubt that there will be more than a few cents brought in from those ads, but whatever there is will be put towards WCOM.

I won't be adding any more anywhere else, and as I said if you want these taken down I will. I would never try to make a profit off of this site. I just want to keep it going.

Chapter I

The Ork camp on WKOM III was in disarray.  The Mighty One surveyed
his rag-tag mob.  Orks bullied and bashed weapons away from grotz, only
for the grotz to steal them back moments later.  Boys were setting off
explosives, seeing who could make the bigger BOOM, using up the
ever-depleting stockpile of munitions.  Blaze and the other Meks were
hammering and wrenching away at the mob’s pitiful fleet of vehicles.  It
wouldn’t do.  It wouldn’t do at all.  This wasn’t the kind of armoury
that supported a WAAAAAAGH.

The Mighty One had been Warboss for two weeks now, ever since his
immenseness had split the skull of Doonwich, his once rival.  Now he was
the biggest and the meanest ork on all of WCOM III, at least that’s
what his grot underling told him on a daily basis.  Eternal, named so
for his uncanny ability to stay alive, had served The Mighty One from
before his rise to power and since that fateful day had taken on the
duties as the mob’s banner bearer.  The Mighty one had appointed him on
the condition that his banner bearing didn’t get in the way of his
other duties such as grovelling at his heels and emptying the squig
poop-pit.

In-fighting by the orks over their meager supply of weaponry was
causing tensions to run high within the camp.  The authority that The
Mighty One had was simply because he was the biggest and the baddest
and he was often forced to remind the other boys of this by bashing a
few skullz together.  Something had to be done, new weapons needed to
be acquired and a suitable enemy sort out to give a right good
flogging.  There were a few rival Warbosses still hiding in the
mountains, but The Mighty One knew from experience they would be even
more poorly armed than his own shabby mob.  The best they had managed
from their last raid was the capture of an eccentric Weirdboy named
Creed.

What the orks needed was some real dakka-dakka.  In this quest there
was only one suitable candidate: the ‘umies.  Not only were the ‘umies
weak and puny, but they had the best boom-makers an ork loota could
ask for.  He knew there was a ‘uman settlement on the planet, most of
his own guns had originally come from there, although he knew not how.
There was one that might know, the sneaky little git!  If anyone did
it would be Shosho, the kommando.  Not only did he have the shiniest
weapons, but him and ‘iz boyz had been sneaking about da jungle for
weeks.  They had to know something!

The Mighty One called Shosho over and began intimidating him into
coughing up some answers as Eternal watched on proudly.  Eternal’s
puffed out chest and deranged grin did not go unnoticed.  On the other
side of the camp two undersized grots, Bryce and Caz, were eying up
the situation through a stolen spyglass.  Bryce snatched the spyglass.

“‘E’s talking to that sneaky bastard in the camo-flags,” said Bryce.  Caz snatched the spyglass back.

“All the while that git Eternal is strutting around like ‘e owns da place.”

“‘E thinks ‘e’s the greatest grot to ever live”

“And ‘e’s wrong about dat.”

“Ded wrong.”

“Too right my friend.”

“Too right.”

“We all know that ‘onour belongs to me, Caz Skullsplitta”

“More like rot-spitta, with all the rot that spits from your mouth.  Iz me Bryce Brainbasha dat is the greatest.”

“You what?”

“I iz!”

The conversation soon deteriorated into a comedic bout of fisticuffs, of which there was no clear victor.

Chapter II

Inquisitor Tom stood in the command bunker of the Imperial forces of
WKOM III.  The guardsman manning the sensor array nervously drew his
attention to the screen in front of him.

“It’s a xenos attack Inquisitor, Sir.  The eldar are making an
assault on Outpost IV.”  The Inquisitor cast a calculating gaze over
the screen.

“The eldar would never perform an assault in such an obvious
manner,” Tom thought to himself for a moment.  “More likely the orks of
this world have finally mustered enough forces for an attack.”

“But Sir, we slaughtered the orks that had overrun the colony when
we arrived, what little remained were driven back into the forests and
mountains.”

“And there they have regrouped.  Now it seems they have a warboss
brazen enough to hit us back.”  The guardsman thought about this for a
moment, before asking.

“Shall I send a platoon to reinforce them, Sir?”

“No.”

“But they’ll be overu-”  The guardsman immediately regretted second
guessing the Inquisitor and shut up.  He’d heard stories about men who
had crossed the absolute authority of the Inquisition.

“The eldar are no doubt watching us even now.  If we send
reinforcements to the outpost, we run the risk of spreading our forces
too thin.  Outpost IV will have to stand on its own.  Only faith in the
God-Emperor can save them now.”

PBP RPG recruiting http://www.thewcom.com/forum/discussion/2024/pbp-rpg-recruiting Thu, 03 May 2012 22:11:02 -0400 Wardonis 2024@/forum/discussions An idea was proposed to play an RPG on the boards other than what we have going for DnD. Toward that direction I'm going to start this. Since our DnD game is fantasy i'm going to go scifi with this. Char Creation is real easy and playing is just as easy. Here is a story summery to start from.

This story takes place nearly a million of years from now. At some point in the future technology began to force an evolution into mankind. We began to become symbiotic with it. Nanites floated through the bodies of many throughout the known territories. But there were purists that opposed this “infection” of technology that plagued their time and they turned away from it, seeking to find a balance and harmony with the universe. Sarulians was the name they took to calling themselves.

Many centuries and millennia past and mankind became truly one with technology. Their bodies now produced a natural EM field that allowed the to interact with electronics with just a touch. Technology as a whole changed and the Valorian Empire was formed. It wasn’t an empire of land but of minds. All though the Valorians were able to communicate mentally by touch and through their technology over range, eons of genetic habit make verbal communication the preference when in close company. They retained a human physic but over time shortened, during the period we will be posting the average Valorian is 5’6” and the tallest wouldn’t reach 6’.

While this was happening the Sarulian purists became one with their environment and evolution had a decidedly different direction for them. They grew both spiritually and physically. Think:
image without the horn and with a much more human face. They became very Shamenistic and the color of their fur is dependant upon the tribe. There are nine total tribes. The Sarulian began to understand the natural elements of nature and how to control them and in time they became very powerful, each tribe devoting themselves to their own specific element. Through collaboration they were able to combine elements and create powerful ships and technology, a match of the Valorians.

What ensued was a civil war that has lasted for hundreds of thousands of years and has consumed four galaxies. The concept of a “whole human” is forgotten in the myths and legends and all notions that the two races were in the past truly one no longer exists. The war has gone badly for the Valorians and if not for the infighting between the Sarulian tribes they would have been wiped out a long time ago. Now they have only a small territory hidden deep in a remote corner of the Pegasus galaxy they use as a home base to make raids against the various Sarulian tribes with.

In the midst of this turmoil a freak of nature throws a wild card into this divided and war torn universe. A rift opens in the desert of a remote planet dumping out a handful of humans from our time.

Basically when you come up with an idea for your char, think of yourself at the mall. Your surrounded by bunches of random people and ~Fwoom~ you black out and wake up in the sand next to a handful of random people that were near you when you blacked out. You Char doesn't have to be you, can be but doesn't have to be, you are not prepared and chances are VERY high you don't know anyone else in the group. When this story starts off, its definitely going to be more of a survivalist thing, and less scifi untill that part is discovered, remember freek accident of time and space. we wont know were transported into the future and won't be prepared for anything we find.

Just fill out this little bit

I just finished Dollhouse a few days ago (created by Joss Whedon who did Buffy/Firefly).  The show was about people who contract their lives to a company as "dolls" in return for a large sum of cash.  As a doll your brain is wiped and reprogrammed for clients who hire you (usually for love/sex).  The main plot revolved around an FBI agent trying to free a girl contracted to the dollhouse.  It was a bit inconsistent in quality, particularly if it was a plot of the week episode.  But when it was good, it was really fucking good.  The last half of season 2 was probably some of the best television I've seen, there was always a mind-blowing twist at the end of each episode.

image
I'm also watching Louie, and almost caught up to season 2.  This one combines Louis CK's stand-up with vignettes of his life as a divorced father of two.  It's sort of like mixing Seinfeld with Woody Allen.  Sometimes the episodes are just depressing and not really funny at all, but I still find myself watching it.

Diablo 3 Open Beta http://www.thewcom.com/forum/discussion/2018/diablo-3-open-beta Tue, 24 Apr 2012 14:56:18 -0400 fusi0n 2018@/forum/discussions
They were really covert about the test IMO.  The only page that had the announcement was www.diablo3.com, not on Blizzard's home page or anything.  Also I am opted in on my battle.net account for the beta but they didn't send an email or anything.  I didn't find out about the test until Sunday night, which left me only about 18 hours until the end of the open beta.

The beta let you play all of the classes up to level 13 (or so I heard).  There were about 5 or 6 quests.  I really would have liked to play all 5 characters but I didn't have enough time so I settled for the Monk and then the Witch Doctor.

The graphics and sound are awesome.  The monsters are really cool.  I like the way they handle storyline development; basically, instead of reading huge blocks of text or having to wait around to finish listening to someone's monologue, you find these scrolls and books along the way and they are read to you as you play.  You just keep hacking and slashing and you have the option to listen to the nuggets of game lore as you play, or mute it if you don't give a fuck.  The followers seem pretty cool but I wish that they had access to more skills and more equipment.  Both the follower and your character are pretty talkative, and they break the 4th wall (your character will go "I have been healed!" if your follower heals you).

The Monk's resource system (Spirit) is pretty cool.  Certain abilities add to your Spirit reserves, and certain ones deplete it, so you have to use combos to balance it out.  I feel like the Witch Doctor's system (Mana) could have been done better.  You have this seemingly-enormous store of Mana.  Your spam spell (Poison Dart) costs 4 Mana which is instantaneously regenerated (you do not even see your Mana globe drop at all, even while constantly using it).  But your powerful spells (Fire Bats) will deplete it entirely in about 2 seconds.  The Witch Doctor concept of a non-traditional spellcaster is really cool though.  I could see him being really fun later in the game.

One thing that I really dislike is the inflexibility in the way the spells work.  You get a spell and that's it; no upgrading it, no customizing it.  The runes kind of give the illusion of customization but certain ones unlock at certain levels so your options are really limited.  There appears to be virtually no customized character development, since all you can do is select runes for your spells; you don't manually raise your attributes, there are no talent points, no perks, no spell trees, no nothing except waiting to hit a certain level so you can unlock the rune that you want for your spell.  I have played enough games to know that there is no way that all 5 runes for each spell are equally powerful and useful, so this means that you actually don't get to customize anything; you just wait for the most powerful rune to unlock so you can use that instead of the lower-level ones.

Overall I am impressed, I will have the game on launch day and I will play it obsessively; I am already planning on marathon gaming sessions for the first few days after release.  I wish they had done some things differently but is still a great game.

TL;DR: There was a D3 open beta this weekend that I played and had fun.

Aliens!!!!!!!! http://www.thewcom.com/forum/discussion/2022/aliens Tue, 01 May 2012 15:36:27 -0400 Wardonis 2022@/forum/discussions

Ok so i'm writing a scifi book, not very far at all but i'm working on some races what how do these races sound?

#1 The Arahnka:
Culture Economic:
The economy and government on Koronnas almost doesn’t exist. A few general common laws exist and a  ruling council of elders is present for general leadership when necessary but few disputes ever arise large enough to need the intervention of this council.

There are 32 elders that represent 32 regions who occasionally meet to settle disputes but more often to entertain each other with stories of adventure. Each elder will typically settle any type of dispute in their own region.  The Arahnka relocate on their home planet frequently and are welcome anywhere they go  accepting and adopting the elder and customs of the region they have moved to as their own.

The Arahnka generally do not cook their meals. They eat plants and even animals raw usually cooking them only to introduce new flavors when the mood strikes. Because of this and  because they have and care little for personal possessions their planetary economy is closer to barter and trade with a heavy emphasis on sharing what they find to be abundant.  Often a story or a good joke is as good as trade goods. No actual currency of any kind exists on their planet.

Culture Religious:
Not one for planning too far into the future the Arahnkans live very much in the moment. Most believe in a sort of afterlife that leads to reincarnation but religion for the most part is a very alien concept to the Arahnka.  Since the formation of the Aegis Alliance the Arahnka have been fascinated with the many religious practices and beliefs of the various cultures across all the races they now find themselves friends with. Many have practiced or followed religions in this time but few have actually reached a point of true belief.

Culture Society:
Arahnkans are known for their carefree but no nonsense attitudes. Very free spirited and spontaneous, they live much of their lives by whim. They do however choose a single mate for life (until their mate’s death) and honor commitments they make even those commitments promised based off a whim. They also very much enjoy adventure and exploration.

The Arahnka people are very tolerant of outsiders and other cultures even when they are not treated in the same manner. It could be said that they are incapable of experiencing prejudice.  They often adopt many beliefs and practices of those they encounter  later only to discard those practices and beliefs for another. They enjoy experiencing many things and will try out other cultures both for understand and to see if they may enjoy it.

Culture Technological:
Technologically the Arahnka are very close to our level. They don’t focus as much towards war and survival as we do since their bodies need less food and water to sustain them and they are naturally excellent hunters so most of their time and tech goes into transportation and entertainment.

Physical Appearance: The Arahnka look very similar to humans except for a few areas such as hair, skin and their large wings that allow them to fly.
Age: Average Arahnka lifespan is between 60 and 80 years.
Bones: The bone structure of the Arahnka is very much like a perfect mix of a bird with a humanoid. Strong lightweight and hollow bones reduce much of their overall body mass.
Eyes: Both male and female have a variety of eye colors including blue, red, yellow and brown.
Hair: The Arahnka do not have hair, thin flexible reeds grow from their head and are usually worn strait down the back, females occasionally adorn their reads with ribbons. The reeds are hollow and are actually made of bone. Since they do not sweat these reeds act much like a heat sync radiating extra body heat away
Height: Males are taller and more muscular averaging 5’10” to 6’3” while females are slightly shorter  and usually gracefully thin averaging 5’5” to 5’11”.
Skin: Both males and females have thin leather like skin that is incredibly soft to the touch. Their skin always comes in two tone colors usually close to matching but occasionally distinctly opposite. Red with orange striations or blue with green striations are very popular but other combinations such as yellow and black are not altogether uncommon.
Special: The Arahnka have large leathery wings that enable them to fly. Their wingspan is slightly larger than their height. Flying under their own wing power is akin to a human walking quickly and uses approximately the same level of energy.

#2 The Taemen:

Culture Economic:
The Taemen have a commercial marketing and financial infrastructure close to what we have here in the early 2000s, though its a lot more honest and less profiteering.

Culture Religious:
The Taemen have no religious beliefs. They publicly burn their dead as a sign of respect but outcasts and offenders will be burned in seclusion as a symbol of disrespect.  They do not believe in any soul or spirit of any type.

Culture Society:
The Taemen society is broken into four castes the lowest of which is the workers caste. Over 50% of the planets population falls into this caste and it consists mostly of workers, servants, heavy laborers and outcasts or criminals. The color of the workers fur or a brand made clearly visible on a criminal sets them apart from the rest of their society. They do not mingle with non-workers and while they are not looked down upon they are expected to know their place. Workers are not slaves, they are paid according to the job and their performance at the job. Some worker families are very wealthy, even more then many of those found in the higher castes. And workers can hirer servants and other workers. But are generally still considered workers and can not move beyond that station. They are also noticeably less intelligent and less aggressive.

The artisan caste is made up of merchants, skilled workers, engineers and scientists. Generally they mingle with the upper castes and their own. While both artisan and worker castes should be compensated for their work, an artisan is due a level of respect not shown to the worker; and enjoy a level of creativity and imagination in their work that the workers caste does not. Additionally the color of the fur is distinctly different, worker caste Taemen  have a grey-rusty color to it where as artisan, warrior and ruling caste Taemen  have a grey-blue color to their fur.

The warrior caste consists of police, military and various types of hunters. At birth they will have the tip of the ear clipped so all will know they are a warrior. Though many warriors are rash and violent, just as many are cold and calculating. Warriors are trained to fight from infancy. Being a warrior is a mark of pride and most posses a strong sense of honor and duty.

The ruling caste has a hierarchy all of its own that consists of many levels of dukes, barons, kings and so many levels in between all set up in a system of checks and balances. It is a very complex system that few outside of the Taemen understand.

Culture Technological:
Though generally ahead of us in many areas of technology they still prefer hand to hand combat over ranged. And their technology strongly emphasizes this. Much of their technology is designed toward arena combat in areas such as dueling or tests of strength or skill. Not in areas such as guns or artillery. Robotics and general levels of manufacturing and production is an area where they are much further ahead of us. The workers supplement the robots that the artisans program.

Physical Appearance: generally cross a Rakasha with a male Dranie
Age: They may live between 40-120 years depending on their caste.
Bones: The bones of the Taemen grow outward in layers like that of a tree trunk. This makes them incredibly strong and resilient to stress.
Eyes: Black or grey eyes
Hair: Their bodies are covered in a light soft fur of either grey-blue or a grey-rust color depending on caste
Height: All three genders are equally built averaging 7’ to 7’5” high and even the softer castes are very powerfully built.
Skin: Thick skin, they tolerate extreme temperatures very well.
Special: Physically the Taemen are a very daunting race to look upon. They have two double hinged knees on each leg and four arms with 3 fingers and a thumb on each hand and. Despite their size they can move shockingly fast and gracefully. Additionally they do not have traditional male and female genders or roles. They actually have 3 genders though its nearly impossible for a non-Taemen to tell them apart. Reproduction takes 3 individuals. The genders are named Vie, Tie and Shy.  But we do not understand yet if there is even any distinction of the gender outside of reproduction since the Taemen live in large family packs and identifying the genders is nearly impossible.
