I'm on a big documentary hit at the moment.  I'm watching docos and assembling or paintng my hams.  It's pretty sweet.
    So recommend me some documentaries.

A good place to find them is here:  http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/

    I have recently watched: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/philosophy-guide-to-happiness/
It's in 6 parts, which is great, because each part is about 25minutes.  I liked the pace of this one, it was good at explaining the ideas behind each philosophy without trying to drown you in knowledge.

Currently watching this one on the advice of my brother: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/afraid-of-the-dark/
    Seems pretty good so far.

I also recently watched the documentary: "aka Tommy Chong" (of Cheech and Chong).  Highly recommend it for anyone who is a fan of drug-law documentaries.

I'm a big fan of Louis Theroux documentaries.  If you search his name on youtube you can find a bunch of them.

Adam Curtis has made a lot of documentaries about the history of political thought/action, and not all of them are so great.  However, the Power of Nightmares is excellent, and you'll learn a lot of fascinating and important things about both the Cold War, the neo-conservative movement, and Islamic radicalism.  Basically, his thesis that constant fear-mongering has completely displaced any sense of positivity in Anglo-American politics, and he shows politicians can manufacture fear.

i'm not gonna lie. i clicked for the 70s banana tits.

my favourite documentaries are all about nature. especially ones about the amazon. i also loved all the war documentaries on Discovery. you learn so much about why things are like the way they are now.

also travel documentaries staring Michael Palin. can't go wrong with that.

Finished watching the Iron Age one, it was pretty good.  Will probably check out the Power of Nightmares one next.

I thought it was so strange the jump between 30 years or whatever. and the lady with the pearl necklace has become so uptight that she's embarassed about being on film topless.

I've seen a few Herzog now and they're all really good. My favourite is Encounters at the End of the World, though it's probably a travesty that I haven't seen Grizzly Man yet.

Well now in all seriousness  don't think I have watched that many documentaries.

I know that Planet Earth is one of my favorite things to watch, ever. If by some chance you haven't seen all the episodes, you definitely should.

I remember watching Super High Me. It was alright, but not great.

I've watched plenty of space things, but I can't remember the name of a single one. They're always cool.

Yeah space things own.  Nature things are probably my favourite thing to watch, from animals to space and everything in between.  I'm not (personally) using this thread to hunt down that type of doco as I'm usually assembling or painting my warhams while I watch these and am often not paying attention to the screen.  That's why I'm hunting mainly political, historical and philosophical documentaries that I can take in just by listening.

This doesn't, of course, mean we can't talk about them in the thread.  Cosmos owns.  Carl Sagan is amazing.  Looking up Planet Earth and seeing it stars David Attenborough, Sigourney Weaver and Mark Linfield.

Top Gear is p cool, but it's nowhere near a documentary  (although some of the Specials play out like a travel documentary I will admit).  On a semi-related tangent I have to mention Game Center CX.  It's like Top Gear except it's Japanese and about videogames.

Whenever I see those nature/space doco's I get a little tired. There is just far too much out there for me to possible take in. And I feel like they've been done to death.

I prefer documentary's on remarkable people and their lives.

I agree in most cases, but Cosmos has a charm that no other science documentary has ever come close to matching, and Planet Earth is simply straight-up better than pretty much every other nature documentary.

I think it places too much importance on Leo Strauss, but yeah overall it's a solid history of how ideas can influence politics on a profound level.

Yesterday I watched The Greeks - Crucible of Civilization, narrated by Liam Neeson *swoon*
    http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/greeks-crucible-civilization/

Greece is my favourite ancient civilization, even more than Rome or Egypt.  So many things that we take for granted today started there, from Democracy to the scientific method.  I recommend this documentary to any history buffs, it covers both the rise and fall of this great empire.

They didn't, actually.  They liked cock but not in their butts (it was considered unmanly).

A documentary about the first anti-racist, anti-capitalist union in the U.S.
