Let's Play: Fall From Heaven 2

Fall From Heaven 2 is a Civilization 4 complete fantasy mod. I'll be playing a pitboss of this soon so I did a few runs through with my chosen people and have concluded that this game is brutal, unforgiving, and fun to play. I'm just assuming you know the basics of the Civilization series. Here is our people, the Kuriotates (we can rename this).

    image

We are Good. We get a Dragon as our hero. Our characteristics are growth oriented and we have the adaptive trait which lets us change one trait every 100 turns on turn 96. There are two other unique attributes to this race: we're humans and centaurs living in harmony. All our mounted units are centaurs and don't require the horse strategic resource.

The other unique attribute is our cities have +1 workable tiles radius (+3 instead of +2), but we can only have a limited number of cities. I think it's 4 on the map size we're playing.

Turn 0: We start with a warrior, scout, and settler. There are two goodie huts! We're on a river system.
    image

Our settler moves up onto the hill to get a better lay of the land before settling. In the distance he sees the remains of warcraft3.com*.
    image

In the Northwest, our warrior, The Mighty Peon, has discovered the desert, a city ruin, and a graveyard (which we are going to leave alone until later).
    image

In the Southwest, our beastly explorer (a scout who uniquely can also attack), Greglar "Samkim" Creed. The local villagers found him so charming they provided him a map.
    image

Here is our capitol. thewcom.com The drawn pink line indicates our eventual workable area. We'll have a couple resources but most importantly, most of our tiles will be along the river providing +1 gold in each tile! We're going to open with a worker and start farming right away (we begin with agriculture). Our opening techs are also set. First we'll get crafting and build happiness improving buildings, then we'll get mining so we can chop down forests and build mines on the hills.
    image

I'm going to build two more warriors (who need names) for protection against Orcs, Goblins, Skeletons, and Lizardmen.

    image

*I put "City Ruins" on during map generation. The game lore is: once everyone got along, then an ice age came and ruined everything, now the ice is gone: game on.

We have neighbors! And they're very close. Very close to us indeed...

Sidar are an assassin oriented Neutral civilization. I don't know much about them.
    image

Lunan are a pirate race and pretty fun. Thankfully it's the guy leader and not the pirate queen--her trait is Raider and they get double gold from pillaging. If the pitboss game ever starts, Dunnp will be playing this race and own the oceans. They were my first choice, but he got them first! So now we're the centaur people.
    image

The purple at the bottom is Lunan and the very difficult to see Grey to the North and East of Samkim is Sidar.
    image

And finally, Greg got gold from two more villages. 96 total, which is a great treasury frankly.

Pitboss means there is a turn timer, and everyone logs into the pitboss to take their turn.

Alright I played this out for a while but nothing too exciting happened. I'll start a new one and if it gets to a fun point, I'll introduce it then.

However, we have to find out what happened to our two friends!

Greglar "Creed" Samkim our scout found a Grave and decided to rob it.
    image

Graverobbing resulted in INSANITY. Now Creed has a random chance to become Enraged each turn. So we sent him back to the city and hoped for the best.
    image

So Creed is enraged and heading off into the wilderness to fight some fools. Nevermind he's a scout and the weakest unit in the game! Who does he find? A polar bear.
    image

But that bear saw Creed and maybe he said, "O shit I better beat it," or maybe he thought Creed wasn't worth it. Either way, the polar bear left and Creed headed off in search of asses to kick. He finds a wolf.
    image

Good job Creed. We're proud of you buddy!

After his victory Creed returned to the site and everything was fine for a little while until this popped up. Greg, a torturer?! Say it ain't so! I guess it's that insanity at work. Poor guy... poorer victims.

The "So?" does nothing but requires evil. If I had the evil religion Ashen Veil this would have been an option:
    image

So he lost an experience point. Too bad, one more victory and he'd have got a little stronger. Really though, when it comes to insanity, it's just a matter of time. He'll pass in his own way.

Sure enough, insanity struck again shortly and he was off. Same direction too. This time though, the polar bear was hungry.

Here's TMP, our faithful defender. Some Goblins made their way into our borders and TMP headed out to meet them.
    image

The lead goblin brough in some back up, so we moved another guy out too. TMP may be strong, but it's unlikely he can take two goblins on a hill (or rather, kill one, then survive the second's attack).
    image

He won his attack, but I didn't get the screenshot in time for the world announcement!
    image

So that's all good for TMP and everything, but a few invasions from goblins, lizardmen, and orcs later, I checked back in with the garrison and was shocked to see this! Everyone else is level two while TMP has been slacking. He hasn't had a fight since this first one!
    image

So I sent him out and he kicked a skeletons ass pretty easy.
    image

That's the end of TMP. He kept killing stuff in the wilderness but the game got boring. Like I said, I'll set up the empire again and if I get an entertaining game I'll open this thread back up.
