Quilting like a mad woman whilst Irene whores around outside.
It's raining with some pretty bad ass wind (which has my father and girlfriend freaking out).
I'm just sitting here like a boss, knowing we could be in a far worst condition than we currently are.
The power keeps coming and going, at one point it was like a rave with all the flickering lights.
Not cool when you're sewing shit.
Might get my sewing machine plugged to a generator.

Today I repaired my neglected GT Palomar bicycle.

Not my actual bike, but looks identical other than this one being in perfect condition.
    image

I bought it in 2000 and used it very frequently until I moved to Corvallis 2 years ago. It sat outside locked to a tree, weathering the mighty Oregon rainy winters, swaths of spider infestations, and summertime bombardments of figs and plums from above.

I replaced the handle grips and the seat, cleaned it up, and tightened the brakes. Now it's as good as new and ready for the streets of Boston.

First time shooting a video on my Nikon D90, i need to get much better at a lot of things but this is my friend climbing outside yesterday.  My friend put some music in the background because the audio was fucked by a passing motorboat, so if you don't like the music complain to him.  I was roped in and had a device with a lever rigged such that I could pull the level to lower, but could not raise myself up without climbing (easily, that is).  At one point i climbed upwards a little (towards the end) and forgot to take in the slack and then dropped about 6 feet.  Next time i'd like to start at the ground and have someone up top pulling me up at a pace they think the climber would take so that we can have pretty good angles the whole way up.

Anyone have experience shooting video with a DSLR?

Footage looks good, Creed, but shaky as hell. Do you have a stabilizer built into the camera?
Also, I highly suggest you get yourself a GoPro is you do alot of sports like these. I've had mine for almost a year now & the things I've been able to do with it are countless. It comes in a casing that enables you to take it underwater, in cold climates, etc. & it's a fish-eye so you get a wicked wide-angle view of everything around. I have a hard time using all my other cameras now because I love this one so much,
It's fucking tiny, too. You can stick it to your helmet (or strap it around your forehead).

I should get paid for saying this shit.

I'll look into it, i've spent far too much money lately though so i probably won't be able to justify the expense.  It was very shaky because i was suspended in mid air and spent too much time fidgeting with the focus (why won't you just auto-focus ya jerk, not sure how to).

GoPro is under 300$, just sayin'.

P.S. I have a rockclimbing class this semester and the teacher is going to be having us use the SCHOOL's rockclimbing shoes. Fucking dirty.
I wanted to know how much a pair costs new and, if you've ever heard of Vibram Five Fingers/ if they're good for climbing?
I want to have my own shoes for this crap & I've always wanted some Vibrams. They're comfortable as all hell.

I don't think Vibrams will be either comfortable or practical for climbing, though i'm not 100%  If you've just got a class and have no interest in going any further (or already own a pair of vibrams and hey why not) you could try them out for a class or two.  Cheapest shoes will probably be $50 or so, creep on this site:

    http://www.steepandcheap.com/

they have deals on hiking/climbing/camping gear and a lot of shoes come up

Is gopro always a fisheye?  I have virtually no interest in fish-eye for climbing videos

I've been rock climbing for well over 13 years now. I'm no pro as I only do it occasionally (no permit thus I don't "spot" anyone, or whatever they call the one pulling the ropes), but I figure, buying a pair of shoes might come in handy for more than just class. But that's where I hit my dilemma see, I really want some Vibrams but I also want to climb comfortably.

I think I'll keep googling until I find peace of mind before buying anything.
Thing with Vibrams is that they're only available online right now since winter's coming. Class started last week. Using a shoe that's been used hundreds of times before?
    Nauseating!

I'm just not sure how the physics of climbing would work with vibrams, normally you put pressure on the inside or outside of your foot, because the shoe is a solid piece it spreads some pressure to your entire foot that, with the vibrams, would only be applied to the individual toes that are in contact with the hold.  I can't piece out whether or not this would murder your toes or not, I also do not know if the rubber coating on the vibrams is tacky enough to be used for rock climbing.  I think you would have to buy a pair of vibrams that are specifically for rock climbing if you did go that way because wearing them for normal activity ruins the tackiness

You'll have to wear socks if you're using rental shoes too...i haven't done that in a long time but it would probably promote blistering a lot (assuming you're wearing cotton socks that absorb and hold moisture forever)

    About the GoPro:
You can change the setting on your camera to be wide- angle fish eye, close-angle fish-eye and just normal. So yes, you do get to take normal pictures with it (but I'm warning you, you'll fall in love with the wide-angle fish eye if you try it).
This is a result of wide-angle:

    image

& as for the Vibrams and climbing with my toes rather than side-foot, I think I'd like to do it with my toes. I'd feel a lot more in control. Besides, with a rock climbing shoe you can climb with the tip of your foot too.

Couldn't either of these work well?:

let me know how it works out, i'm a late adopter and haven't tried the vibrams yet.

I won't be buying the go-pro, i've spent too much money lately, eventually i could see myself getting it but i don't think it's value is unique enough to justify spending $300 on it now.  I see it's value overlapping too much with my D90 as the go-pro (to me) is more of a tool for self-video.  I just bought a 10-20mm lens so i'll see how that works with the video on my camera, i could get pretty close to fish-eye but i'm not sure how this would work with the video part.  I usually don't like 8mm shots, the one above doesn't look quite like 8, do you know the specs on it?

in before i buy a go-pro in two weeks...

Today was boring. So I'll talk about my weekend.

Friday I sang karaoke and some girl is now trying to sign me up for show choir at my school.
Saturday I went to a blues and jazz festival with some friends I haven't talked to in a while (years). Then we went to a place called Ha Ha Pizza, which apparently is known for having weed pizzas. So after eating there we came back, one of our friends goes in front of the stage and starts dancing, which gets the attention of a group of girls, and he gets one of their numbers.
Sunday I went to a friend's brother's cookout and played dodgeball on four trampolines at once.

First day of classes today, it's going to be a rough semester.  I'm starting to develop an animosity toward college students similar to how I felt about high school students.  Good thing I'm out in December.

Today during lunch I went to the library to grab some books. There was a pretty good looking librarian there. An 8 who seemed like she didn't know she was an 8. Didn't get to really mack her because I wasn't even prepared to get my game on. I was/am intrigued by her. Hope she's around when I have to return books.

Crushes on library girls are the best. It's all quiet so you can hear their gaze fixed upon you. And they can hear your's fixed on them. But the silence also acts as a shroud, so nothing is really certain. Did I hear something? Was that a gaze on me? It must've been! But it's uncertain. I'll just gaze back and put her through it.
