Yeah, Richard Feynman took LSD and floated around in John Lilly's sensory deprivation tank only after he'd finished the atomic bomb. But then he regretted it because he figured he didn't know enough about whether it would damage his brain and that he was taking a stupid risk.

About universal consciousness or "panpsychism" in contemporary analytic philosophy: it's the account fallen back on by people who can't get over the problems that come with physical explanations for consciousness, e.g.: at what point does consciousness emerge as a discrete phenomenon? is there a level of complexity at which physical processes function that suddenly gives rise to consciousness? Sometimes the half way ground is taken and you get "protopanpsychism," which holds that there to be a protoconscious component in every particle.

Then there are people who think it's silly to posit weird protoconscious stuff when we know so little about physical matter in the first place. Nonetheless, I like the conclusion that we don't have any justification for a void in death. Sometimes your posts give me existential angst so I need to argue with you :)

And Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, frequently tripped acid. He believed that the sober mind had evolutionary filters that stifled creativity.

We should have a WCOM Skype group or something.  I have an account that I haven't used in 2 years.

It's like this.  We're all NPCs in a really big RPG.  No one knows who the player is or that they're even in a game.  There was a creator, they created the world, us and our programming, but their role in this has long since ceased.  Now we exist only as a world for the player to explore and interact with.  A player we will never recognize in a world we think is ours.

But that creator can shut off the server at any time.

Once we stop paying our dues.

Once the player stops paying his dues or just loses interest.  Nothing the rest of us can do about it.

I have Skype, we could do like a conference call kind of thing. Biggest obstacle is timezones.

You can't do multiple video chat on Skype unless you pay.

    On Google+ it is free.

Today I'm feeling blue and down in the dumps. I'm pretty sure my mom and dad are going to split up soon, got some more job rejection e-mails and I was really hoping this one from Tennessee to fall through since my cousins wife works inside the company and referred me. This girl i've been messaging on okcupid just stopped messaging me, not that it matters but it sucks.

Things are not going well. I appreciate what I do have though.

Started off with one of those days myself.

Having my parents split when I was 22 was one of the biggest moments of my life, it changed how i view relationships in a lot of ways.  Be supportive of each of your parents and neutral regarding their disputes, it is not fun but remember that you now play a much larger emotional support role to each of your parents.  For me it meant dealing with a lot of stuff with my father that I never had/wanted to, it meant being the adult, the strong person that my father had always been for me.

    Good luck

my parents have been talking about splitting up every several years or so, I think if it wouldn't be for the discomfort that it would cause us the children they would have done it a long time ago

also good divorce advice greg. i was young when my parents split; got two good households out of it. not the typical outcome.

Even thought my parents sometimes fight and can't stand each other at times, I think they'll will stay together forever. Partly because of us kids, partly because they know they wouldn't make it on their own. While I prefer to see them together, it is sometimes sad to see them both unhappy for periods of time.

Today was my 3rd week on in my graduate job (sorry those without jobs...!). On the other hand, i've pretty much been told they're relocating me to christchurch for 3 months or more. Will be doing recovery-rebuild work after last years Christchurch earthquake which killed ~200 people. I quite like the idea of helping out, and don't fear aftershocks or further earthquakes. The downsides are that I'm going to be away from good friends, which I'm not particularly ready for. I've gotten used to friends coming and going, but it feels a bit different when I'm the one going. The other downside is this has been forced on me because of the company's financial situation. I would have preferred to have a stronger say/choice. Not sure why that is important to me, but it is.

I bet you'll find it a good thing to move to another place and meet new people.

Today I take the midnight train to the airport so that I can catch my 6am flight tomorrow. GOnna have to stay in the airport for like 5 hours overnight because mass transit doesn't run at those time and I'm too cheap to call a taxi.

I'll be flying to Oregon, staying with family and friends for 8 crazy nights.

I played a DJ set at a bar on Sunday night which went pretty well, though I wish it were about twice as loud. I brought like seven friends so I actually impacted the size of the crowd more than anyone else. Thus even if the organizers weren't impressed they're still gonna have to consider asking me to play again :)  We drank late into the morning but I don't remember when I went to sleep. Got breakfast at like 4PM, went back to sleep till 7. Asmath was downtown yesterday but I'm playing hard to get (I was stinky and for the most part unconscious).

Now I'm heading to North Bay on a train with a friend.

7 people is a crowd for dj's? How many people are there usually in a crowd if no-one took their friends? I just ask because when we play to less than 30-50 people, even the smallest venue seems empty.

It was a very small thing, only about 25 people. It was someone testing out a space and seeing what kind of crowd he could get.

today (yesterday) i went to the autoshow. it was awesome. i might even take my nephew again on saturday (he wanted to go but didn't make it). i tried to make a booty call on this fly honey i know downtown too but the ho blew me off.

also today (today) i had a dream where i was walking into a store that had Home Depot like shelving/racking (the orange ones) and in one isle a girl i was talking to at the show was doing squats with more weight than i. she couldn't do it but when i approached her, she asked me why i hadn't given her a spot. i responded that i didn't want to disrespect her. we had some convo that's jumbled in my memory but she said "things will get better" or something like that right before i woke up. now this girl was a chick who was selling race car driving courses at a booth. i was chatting her up (without any ulterior motives) and i found out she was a race car driver who placed 3rd in some tourny. the thing was she was very petite and i wouldn't have pictured her as a racer. EDIT: i think her almost doing more weight than me was some subconscious reaction to me finding out she can drive better than me.

also, yesterday (yesterday) i dreamt that i saw an old friend of mine and i tapped her on the shoulder as i walked by. she barely recognized me but then i realized she looked different. that very same day as i was walking to the autoshow, i swear i thought i saw her (my old friend) in a car at the intersection. they were stopped for a good 30 seconds and she looked like she was staring at me (she had sunglasses on) but i didn't wave because i didn't see a hint of recognition and i also thought i was seeing things due to my dream earlier.

    i'm like fucking negrodamus sometimes.
