This is an updated message I sent Greg(creed) when he bought Sc2. Enjoy!

    1) Forums:

    Reddit

    Team liquid

    2) Must-watch for Beginners

Day9 (Archive of the best commentator out there)

http://day9tv.blip.tv/file/3732340/ (From the archive, video about basics)

http://blip.tv/file/3651794 (From the archive, video about little things new players miss)

    3) Other(good) commentators

    AskJoshy (solid)

Psy (Diamond zerg who sometimes posts 1st person commentaries

BlizShouter (pretty boring voice, but worth a peek)

Note: HD and Husky are very popular commenators, but frankly both of them are not very good at the game and you'll miss out on a lot of little things if you watch them. That said, they are entertaining. Search them on Youtube if you'd like

    4) Replays (uploading and downloading)

    7) Me

I'm Ranks 281 on the North American servers. Message me to play or to talk/ask questions. I've played since the latter phase of beta (though some of you have played longer) and am currently top10 Diamond (~600pts).

Yeah this is the coolest page on that site imo

    http://sc2ranks.com/stats/all/1/all

Database statistics about everything. Most interesting is that only ~20% of the players play zerg. Whether that is because they are underpowered (probably not, as win ratios are similar for all 3 races) or whether Zerg is boring atm remains to be seen.

I'm happy to learn that because I like playing the least popular race. I think zerg is unpopular because of how alien they are. People would rather imagine that they're cool space cowboys or super intelligent humanoid aliens than monstrous ones.

probably less zerg players because you don't get to learn them in the campaign.

i loved the zerg storyline when they were ruled by the Overmind. i hate the Kerrigan story line. bitch just has PMS.

also, is there a website that shows the changes to units and structures from SC1 to SC2. like the queen, carriers etc. i noticed last night that carrier range vs. turrets is shit now.

Day9 is AMAZING. In-depth and entertaining analysis of the game every time. Thanks for that.

And I think Zerg is played the least because they're difficult to use effectively. The basics of the macro are so simple that when I first tried them out (like three days ago) I thought "oh, I can play Zerg now" because I could mass roaches and rush people and win games. But after watching a couple of Zerg games with MadFrog or TLO, it seems apparent that long-haul Zerg games need to be played in such a way that is radically different from Protoss or Terran. Creep tumors and spreading and like five + expos and wave after wave of attacks. Really sexy games to watch, but almost just as hard to conceive of executing.

I really think Day9's commentary has already changed my game. I just ascended to gold league and I was thinking I'd have some trouble keeping my record sexy, but I'm on a six win streak right now and I don't see it stopping.

I'm going on an Amazing, cheap trip to Arizona in two days. I've never been; it's gonna be awesome; God dammit I'm gonna miss SC2.

that seems to have only SC1 stuff.

i think instead of going random like i a am now, i'm going to stick to one race till i get them down pat and then learn the others. i was always good with toss so i'm gonna start with them. i've only played like 4 games vs. people and 2 vs. computer to learn... i just figured out the tech to get immortals and i'm going to work on perfecting getting them fast for 1v1. i've yet to do team games but i figure that would be easier since your team should be backing you up on your weakness.

Random people suck for teams. 3/4 of the time, they are idiots. Might just be my luck.

My hardest matchup is P vs T. I can't figure out how to beat Terran. I use to get owned by Reapers but no one makes Reapers anymore. 1 game I got beat by mass marines (made no sense since i had collosus, zealots, stalkers), other game MMM Drop onto my base, other game mass vikings and marine marauders, other game had siege tanks in the back and marines marauders in the front.

The worst thing is that you can't rush T, which is what I excell at. I put observers up but it seems they have so many more units. I make about 22 harvesters, im guessing I need more but then i'll have fewer units early game.

    HaLp

I hope you have the thermal lance upgrade for the colossus. Otherwise they're pretty useless. And use immortals to counter the marauders. If you're observer is going over there early (CB it out as soon as your robotics facility is done) then you'll know whether or not to keep making your staple units until colossus w/ thermal lance (marines only) or to grab some immortals (punish marauders and siege tanks). For vikings I like my blink-stalkers. Mass marines get taken care of by zealots w/ charge, too, though I'd say colossus is almost essential.

You might not be able to rush terran on their ramp, but you can often come in the back of their base. There is also rushing to blink stalkers and blinking into an undefended part of their base. The most effective rush I find against terran is Void Rays, but it can be a very all in strat at times. If you do this, be sure to hide your Starport.

I'll have to get the thermal lance upgrade then. And thanks for the ideas guys. I'm 10-10 in singles so bleh.

Oh yeah, I start the thermal lance upgrade and CB the hell out of it before I start getting my first colossus. I also can't recommend those Day9 tutorials more. Just watch his commentary on a pro game so you are entertained while you learn. Just his general basic tidbits of advice have done wonders for my game. I've been on a solo win streak since, though it's on hold right now.

I really should have brought the game with me on this trip because there's been plenty of time to play. I fiend so hard whenever I think about SC. What a fucking game it is.

The exact way that it's done is hidden, but it has to do with a certain number of wins against players who are a league or two above you.

Sounds difficult.. Players don't usually place these units next to worker lines, and I'm not sure whether my infestor will be able to latch on to them for long enough. Even if I bring many, they're fragile, and they'le be killed very quickly.
    Might work though...

I haven't played SC since school started. I've been busy enough in Toronto and haven't really been thinking about Starcraft much, plus I don't have internet at the place I'm staying so playing is a bit of a hassle. I'm glad things have worked out this way at the moment because otherwise I'd probably do not-so-great in my courses. So, my SC friends, farewell for now!
