no open beta. read http://starcraft.incgamers.com/articles/comments/beta-center-starcraft-ii-wings-of-liberty/>this to find out how to apply for the closed one. about the duration, they originally said up to 6 months, but I'd say up to 3 months, since they had such a huge delay working on bnet2. I bet things are already pretty stable for a game thats only in beta phase.

Copypasta'd from The Dunwich Horror:my friend just gave me his 2nd sc beta key

I hate you and your friend.

They say the next wave of invites is going to come out a bit after or on March 4th. Which seems quite a bit late considering the fuckers only got about 1000-3000 people max on the servers at the moment. I just wish they thrown everyone out into it at the same time like they did with the betas for WoW. Servers crashed? I don't give a shit, nor should Blizzard because it is a god damn beta. They are going to need a realisitic estimate of their servers anyway.

I heard that's fucking impossible and you should stop talking out of your ass. You need a key to play. You can view replays via a crack but that's it, nothing else. There is no LAN capability in SC2 so hamachi is out of the question.

so i played a bunch of sc beta last night
you play 5 (optional) matches in a beginner league to test how good you are

then i think its 10 more matches to get a ranking
and those 10 matches determine which league you will be in
and from there your wins/losses could move you up or down a league

sometimes people start the map with "advantage" which means their base is defended by rocks or something, but no idea what determines who gets that

gameplay is awesome and so similar to starcraft 1, so much is the same, but with minor improvements all over the place
ive been getting owned a lot. i sucked completely with zerg so have gone to protoss

edit: oh and it runs on my crappy old computer, it only chunks during large battles.

News on the hacking: Before you ask, yes people already have made a maphack that reads unit positions from the memory allocations. Already.

Besides that, there's been some work to on getting a working single player for those that don't have keys. They are just having troubles getting the AI online. The good news is they were actually able to emulate the server and generate a callout which I was never expecting to happen, but with SC2 and hype I guess I shouldn't be so surprised considering they still only have about 3000 people in the beta and over 100,000 want to get in.

Tonight we're going to paly a game like it's 1998!

As in that looks like the exact same game as Starcraft with pretty graphics. No. Just no.

I'm okay with waiting and just buying the game when it comes out... an early preview would be sick but since I don't really have the time to actually go "bug-hunting", I probably shouldn't be in the beta.

you could check out http://www.youtube.com/user/HuskyStarcraft and http://www.youtube.com/user/HDStarcraft instead, they each have dozens of replays in 720p and 1080p.

Watching really isn't the same as playing though. I don't really get caught up in video game hype. I have to play it to be convinced.

If you already tried it then okay, otherwise I still recommend you to. Nobody is very excited about the prospect of watching commentated video game matches, but me and my friends find it surprisingly interesting.

I find blizzard sequels can often be very underwhelming at first. I rember playing diablo 2 for the first time and thinking how it only had a few minor improvements over D1 and wasn't that great. It took me a ton of gameplay before I realized how much I loved all the minor details. The same for warcraft 3. Thats just me though.

I just got it to work. The offline one vs the comp. And then it stopped working. Oh well, more time to study.
    Also, damn you.

Edit: I originally got it to work when playing vs the retarded comp, which built like 3 units by the time I had 20, and I wasn't even trying. I then tried using some other AI's but it crashed, and now it crashes even when I try switching back to the original AI.

these nerds have been working on it nonstop so im sure theres been updates to the crack and computer AI. once i finish this paper thats due later today ill try to get caught up on what the most recent developments are. the AI script is written in a very clean language that resembles that of wc3's scripting code and the (small) function libraries that currently exist have been located. blizz only put in the most basic ai into the beta and a lot of functions that will probably exist at release arent available yet. there are also certain elements of the ai that are hardcoded and cant be changed (i think important locations like chokepoints and minerals, the like). otherwise, the ai is being updated constantly with what is currently available

    yeah apparently 5.0's out - http://darkblizz.org/Forum2/ai-scripts/starcrack-ai-official-thread/
if you can get it to work please be so kind as to link to your Base.SC2Data file and to the loader that you used. (Also maybe to a map that you got it working on)
