I don't see why saving babies is considered such a noble thing to do. Sure they're small and innocent, but they'le grow to be evil soon enough just like the rest of us.
If only we didn't have religion and nationalism we could pass off an international rule forcing families to have a maximum of 2 kids, and then over time there would be less people and everything would be better. But yeah I'm getting carried away here.

the Canadian Blood Services says you can donate every 28 days. which is what i started doing. i'd keep doing it but i also have other fitness goals.

right now the stupid body fat measuring thing at this one gym reads anywhere from 8.5% to 11% body fat for me. i think i'm like 10%. i'm going to buy calipers that have digital sensors to make sure you get the right pressure. this way i'll know the most accurate fat % i have. i want to get down to 6%.

    according to Wiki:

Pretty ambitious goals there, TMP. I'm sure if you can get some swimming in your routine, that will definitely help you out.

It's been a while since i've took pics so i'll take some soon. Also haven't worked out in like a week thanks to finals, moving back, unpacking, doing stuff, yada yada yada.

yeah i gotta do cardio. i've done 0 cardio since i hurt my knees. i've only just begun doing my legs. i think i might survive running if i get new cushy running shoes and run on the clay track like i used to in the summer last year. i just don't wanna hurt myself again because joint injuries really suck. i gotta find a 24 hour swimming pool.

whenever i set a goal, i aim for the top. it's doable and even if i don't make it to the top, i'd still be at a better place than if i had set my goals lower.

alright i'm gonna start cardio. called around and i'm gonna start doing lane swim in the mornings when the pool is open early and then i'm gonna start sprint training on the clay track by my old highschool. let's see if i can get a 6 pack by july.

    EDIT: 8-pack soon after.

This semester was pretty terrible in terms of improvement. My overall bodyweight went down a few pounds (but I got more cut which was cool but completely the opposite of my goal), and the majority of my lifts have plateau'd during the past few months. I'll have a free Y membership this summer so I'm going to develop a better workout that involves switching up routines every other week. Also going to research and invest in more dietary supplements.

what is your goal? simply to gain weight?

i wouldn't recommend switching up routines every week. maybe every 2-3 months but if you have a consistent routine, you can gauge yourself better. unless you keep strict records of weights, fat % and body dimensions.

edit: i measured my biceps the other day and i was like .4 inches smaller on each arm but my forearms were 1" bigger each. i've definitely lost fat so i'm guessing it was fat that was on my biceps that got burned off as i am still stronger than i was before. gotta remeasure myself again soon.

To gain lean mass so I can fill out my 6'3 frame. The routine I've been looking into involves setting up two routines you alternate between. For example, one week do chest routine A, second week do chest routine B, then third week return to chest routine A.

I just started a "bikini bootcamp" because I suck at motivating myself to exercise, so I figured if I pay for a class I'll do it. So far we've done kickboxing and the lady is a beast. She is a body builder and she really makes you work. She's really into protein too...like she suggests 1g protein for every pound you weigh, which is a crap load of protein.

Not sure if loading up on protein is the best thing for girls since it's for building muscle, but good job on getting motivated and going through the program! Kickboxing is great for cardio and im sure you'll do some leg and butt exercises.

1g per pound of bodyweight does seem to be a lot for women, but adding a muscle building routine to cardio isn't a bad idea. A lot of girls are afraid to incorporate light lifting into their routines because they're afraid of ending up butch. But most of those fears are completely unfounded since women don't build muscle like men do, it just results in a more toned body.

1g per lb is roughly what a guy takes when we want to build muscle. if you're looking to just slim down, basic cardio and anaerobic routines are great. i think you're on the right track with that class. with chicks, i always encourage working out the lower body because that part has the most muscle (more muscles = more calories burnt every day) and also it's the sexiest part. baby's gotta have back!

light upper body workouts are ok too.

Ok...so week one finished and she thoroughly kicked my ass. I'm supposed to work out on my own on Fridays and Saturdays, so yesterday I ran 4.5 miles with hills and today I'm going to the gym. I'm planning on just doing some hand weights and stuff, but I figured I'd ask you guys; what would be the best exercise to develop push-up muscles? Using the bench press? Cause I'm really bad at push-ups at the moment.
  • TheMightyPeonTheMightyPeon May 2010
    Posts: 5,752
you are correct. any bench press like exercise will allow you to do more push ups.

i would recommended doing the following with very light weights:

    Dumbbell bench:
    http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/PectoralSternal/DBBenchPress.html

    Fly:
    http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/PectoralSternal/DBFly.html

    Cable decline:
    http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/PectoralSternal/CBDeclineChestPress.html

do very light weights with flys.

EDIT: you could also add triceps and shoulder excercises. they are secondary muscles in the pushup motion.

I did some flys (but standing up instead of lying down) with five pound weights and it got hard after five reps....which means I should probably do them more often heh. What kind of shoulder exercises do you recommend? I was working my triceps a lot but I couldn't think of anything for the shoulders.
  • TheMightyPeonTheMightyPeon May 2010
    Posts: 5,752
if you do flys standing up, you're activating your shoulders. your chest becomes secondary more or less. to isolate your chest you've gotta do them lying down or at least on cables or something so that your shoulders don't become the primary muscle group.

When doing pushups the shoulder muscles you use the most are the anterior deltoids of i recall (edit: yeah it's your anterior deloids as per the link below). the following exercises work out that muscle group:

    Front raise:
    http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/DeltoidAnterior/DBAlternatingFrontRaise.html

    Arnold press:
    http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/DeltoidAnterior/DBArnoldPress.html

    Shoulder press:
    http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/DeltoidAnterior/DBShoulderPress.html

also, when you're doing pushups, are you doing normal pushups or the girlie version?

    Normal:
    http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/PectoralSternal/BWPushup.html

    Girlie:
    http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/PectoralSternal/BWPushupKnee.html

Finals week (and the week before that) ruined me. I was making serious progress in being disciplined about my eating habits and exercising, but all the stress from school and the due dates looming over my head made me pretty much abandon my routine in favor of doing whatever I felt like doing to minimize the stress. I started to get back on track last week and hopefully I'll continue this week (even though I failed again yesterday).

Lifted for the first time in a while today, been a little crazy with finals and all. Embarrassingly it took effort to do a 3x8 135 for bench. On the bright side, my Y membership starts monday so I'm going to fine tune my routine this weekend. Looking to do a 10lb clean bulk before school starts again in the fall.

So since Im back home, I no longer have access to an amazing gym and hot chicks on eliptical machines. So now my workout routine goes like this. I have very limited resources at home but I make due with what I got.

    Day 1

    Benchpress
    Lat Pull-Down
    Arm Curl
    Pushups

    Day 2

    Walk to Park
    Pullups
    Leg Raises
    Walk back home
    Planks

    Day 3

    Walk to park
    Do cardio jog/walk
    Walk back home

And thats it. Eating healthy and protein shakes like always. I'll post some new pics this weekend, it's been a while since, internship hunting has taken all my time.

My two main problems with working out are:
    1. lack of energy / motivation to do so, and
    2. after lifting for a couple days in a row, I'm sore and tired and want to take a day or two off (which turns into 4 or 5).

I was looking into NO Xplode and similar supplements and everything that I read said that it gives you mad energy while helping your muscles recover faster. NO Xplode is fucking $70 at Sports Authority for a 45 day supply, and that was too much money for me to justify. But, then I went to Wal-Mart and found this knock-off for $30:

    image

Today is day #1; I drank it about 15 minutes ago and I'm gonna start lifting shortly. I'll let you guys know what it does for me.
