    -Charles Darwin

One of the best movies ever.

    Lion King with the girl

We agreed that the movie in no way shape or form explains why Scar's reign somehow causes an entire fucking river to stop flowing.  I know I should probably just ignore it, but it bugged the crap out of me.  However, I can see why it's such a well-remembered Disney movie.  Virtually every single frame was gorgeous, and it's a visual feast.  I don't think any other Disney movies quite reach that height.

Swingers, didn't really like it.  Some of the dialogue was good, but ultimately the characters had this unsympathetic Entourage-esque douchiness so I couldn't get myself that invested in the story.  Also, Vince Vaughn said "Baby" way too much.

saw In Time. i enjoyed it. the premise was good. not the greatest script but i liked it.

Kill the Irishman. decent gangster flick. not as violent as i would have liked it

edit: also watched Predators (Predator 5). it sucked. seriously, don't watch it.

also Fantastic Planet looks like some crazy acid trip. oh, it's from the 70s.

Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Fincher Version).  I'd rate it about the same as the swedish one, it was interesting how he made subtle changes to the attitudes of the two main characters.  In his version it seemed like Lisbeth was more attracted to Mikael.  I still think the movie suffers from dragging on too long after the climax, but I guess that must be a fault of the source material.

Probably mentioned many times already, but Senna is excellent. I'm trawling wikipedia reading F1 history right now.

Oh, I guess americans don't get into F1 much actually.

Yeah I thought Senna was a well done documentary.  I didn't know anything about racing and still found myself pulled into it.

The movie is (most probably/obviously) very biased in Senna's direction. I think he may have been more competitive politically/scheming than they portrayed.

I was only born in 88, so I've grown up only knowing Schumacher as the best. Interesting to see how he relates to the previous generation.

Valhalla Rising.  Pretty good, definitely not a movie for everyone though.  The main character is mute so the dialogue is minimal.  The ending kind of threw me off too.

I watched the first 30 minutes of Antichrist, but my mind started wandering off on other things and I couldn't focus.  So I'll save the rest of that for another time, but I heard it gets pretty wicked.

Oh wow, there's actually an animated movie? Wonder who the target audience for that was...?

    Watched 50/50. Was good.

I saw the Animal Farm animation when I was about 4-5, the pigs are bastards. And the big horse made me cry I think.

But...but...but... there's no way you can catch the communist satire when you're 5 or 10 years old.

You don't need allegory at that age, plus the commies had already been defeated.

I think when the chickens started to get hung is when I started getting bothered. Or when those dogs attack some other animal. Or maybe when Boxer gets sent away to be made into glue. Listing this stuff is making me realize how stupidly straightforward and aesthetically retarded Animal Farm is.

I watched the beginning of Wild Strawberries before some drama came upon me and I had to abort. The first twenty minutes were pretty incredible, though. Hopefully I'll finish it sometime.

Yeah I'm a Hitchcock noob, I've only seen Psycho.  His movies seem very fast-paced for their time, its easy to see how much he influenced a lot of stuff.

Watched many a movie last night.

    The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
.  /w Heath Ledger and Tom Waits
This movie is pretty tripped out.  I would recommend it.

The Great Outdoors.  /w John Candy and Dan Aykroyd.
Such an 80's movie.  It even had the song by Yello - Oh Yeah.

    Unknown. /w Liam Neeson
Give me back my daughter identity!  Not as good as Taken but still quite good.

Yellowbeard.  /w some Monty Python cast and more.
I must show you a clip from this movie.  Hilarity at the 50 second mark.

    Saw Blitz. Terrible.

Saw Rampart. Had potential but messed up by having bad dialogue and plot.

Will elaborate later when I get home.

EDIT: Rampart had potential. it's about a corrupt cop in the LAPD in 1999 played by Woody Harrelson. has appearances of Steve Buscemi, Segorni Weaver and Ice Cube (fuck my spelling). it had multiple story arcs. one about Woody's poor parent/relationship skills, one about his corruption, one about the LAPD's own investigation, some shit about some fucking lawyer, fuck why did i watch that movie.

i like movies with minimal camera work (children of men, drive) and this had elements of that. sometimes i thought it was trying too hard to be artsy though and ignored things like PLOT and meaningful dialogue.

Mercury Rising (1998)  Not sure how I had missed this movie, it's has some awesome actors in it.  Bruce Willis is the hero, Alec Baldwin is the baddie.  Even Pete Stormare makes a small appearance (he the dude that played Satan in Constantine).

    From IMDB:
Bruce Willis is an outcast FBI agent who is assigned to protect a 9 year old autistic boy who is the target for assassins after cracking a top secret government code.

Pumping Iron, decent watch.  I think bodybuilding peaked in the 70s, there was actually a good focus on aesthetics whereas now its just get as huge as possible even if it looks terrible and asymmetrical.  I was surprised by how smart Arnie was too, he was good at emotionally manipulating his opponents to lose.

Your Friends & Neighbors: I was hoping I'd like this since I loved "In The Company of Men", but it just didn't click for me.  It was a mostly cliche infidelity story with unsympathetic characters that's been done better by many other movies.  Everyone should see In The Company of Men though.
